• Agricultural Committee Calls For Standardized Prices

    27/04/2009

Asharqia Chamber's Agricultural Committee studied the negative effects of erratic agricultural production and pricing for citizens and farmers alike. During the committee's latest meeting, chaired by Abdur-Rahman Al-Mulajjam, members of the board held that increased numbers of foriegn workers in fish and agricultural market places is responsible for an increase of several violations including improper business practices and the sale of poor quality merchandise.
The committee stressed the need for agricultural producers and businessmen to organize themselves so that only clean, pesticide-free produce is brought to the marketplace. They also discussed ways that they could cooperate with the government to ensure that Saudi produce markets are amongst the best in the world like the New Zealand produce markets.
Members of the committee also called for the standardization of agricultural produce prices mutually beneficial to both farmers and buyers.
The committee reflected on the important topics discussed during the 2nd Annual Agricultural Conference that was held at the Sheraton Hotel in Dammam in early April under the direction of Prince Muhammad ibn Fahad ibn Abdul-Azeez and attended by the Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Fahad ibn Abdur-Rahman Ba-Gunaim. During that conference constructive steps were also discussed for solving a number of problems related to the agricultural sector in the Kingdom.
